Ultracam Progress Meeting - 29 November 2000
Attendees: Derek Ives, Chris Tierney, Tully Peacock, Andy Vick, Vikram Dhillon (via phone), Vicki Ramsay
Absences: David Atkinson
Notes of Meeting:
· Optical
Outline drawings from Mark (from University of Sheffield) to be gone over - Tully will re-do one with tolerance etc to show how they should look and send them back.
Dichroic filters - spec for filters e-mailed from Vik to Tulley.
Tolerance on optics to be done. New thickness (10mm) for dichroics to be put in - drawings can be commented on after this.
CCD window also to go in on this - Vik to advise which to use (assumed quarter inch to be used). Tully going to look at coatings to find out what the minimum spec would be.
Tender will have to be back in by 10th December as that is when Tully is leaving on commissioning trip.
· Electronics/Mechanical
Camera module - received first CCD (engineering).
Also, all electronics, pcbs etc and controller to run Pielter are in.
Camera drawings being checked before going out for manufacture
· Software
Andy met up with Phil Daley at recent conference. Phil is writing book on Real Time Linux and he gave some advice on what distributions to use. He will also give a pre-proof copy of the book, but this can not be distributed in any way.
Andy spoke to Kitt Peak re new SDSU PCI boards - this seems to work quite well under Linux, but not sure how much work this will involve to work under Real Time. Kit Peak will be doing this in New Year so we will keep in contact and use their test info.
Currently specifying GPS card so this can be ordered and set up in January (assuming someone can work on this).
GPS card supplier also sells antennae repeater which may be of use in respect of lightning strike worries - this can be looked at but distances have to be found out.
Software are anxious to order equipment but do not wish to commit until testing has been done. May be worth contacting La Palma to see if they have any information on SBUS interface software.
- Andy will look at ULTRADAS software and see if it is suitable or too unwieldy.
· AOB
SDSU - looks like delivery is going to be on time.
As discussed at the meeting between Tully, David & Vik - Vik will complete chip window, lid and box.
Quote for dichroic to come to Vik today - suppliers seems to think design is feasible.
Web pages are currently being updated by Vik.
Review to take place in new year - possibly end of Jan - Will have to have further discussions on this to decide when it will take place and what will be discussed.
