Ultracam Progress Meeting
Wednesday 1 November 2000-11-01
Attendees: Derek Ives, Chris Tierney, Andy Vick, David Atkinson, Tully Peacock & Vikram Dhillon (via conference call), Vicki Ramsay
Absences: No absences at this meeting
Notes of Meeting:
· Optical
It was agreed that Eli would carry out a review of current proposed design so that project can be sure this will work as required.
CAD file has been revised and will be out today.
Vikram had a few queries on design, namely the choice between U and R Bands, the placement of the Camera (very close to the focus) and the dichroic was tight within the beam. Tully explained these to Vikram's satisfaction, but both felt they may need to discuss these further outside of the meeting.
· Electronics
David working on CCD design and e-mail discussions with Vikram are ongoing on this. Still at the stage where there are looking at drawings, but these will be sent to Vikram when finalised. An engineering grade CCD will be here within the month.
PCB board is out for manufacture.
The controller has been mounted very close to camera head - Derek has reviewed figures on this and will provide a system diagram.
· Software
Real Time Linux will be used for camera control system. In theory, this will provide a 10 microsecond accuracy, with which Vikram was very happy.
The overall system was described to Vikram and a document/report formally describing the design when this is further along.
The interface analysis is currently underway, but is not quite at design stage yet.
The web based camera control is currently being looked into - timescale is only real issue on this design. The processor would be on the electronics rack. The disks will be within the rack next to the PC to be mounted on telescope, this will make the whole design more mobile than have a control room based design.
SDSU expect by end of year. It is hoped to use NAOMI dsp system to save any re-writes.
DI wishes to purchase complete PC system ASAP but have to be certain that design ideas will work before any orders are placed. When pci card in in, Andy can work on project one day a week.
· AOB
Lighting protection/hazard will have to be looked into to calm any site qualms on the design.
Tully queried which Autocad package Vikram had - Vikram believes this to be V14, but will confirm.
Further discussions outside of meeting will have to take place with regards to window and bining details.
It was agreed to hold a progress meeting with conference call every two weeks, and that Vikram would attend ATC meet in person every six weeks.
Derek to arrange for Vicki to have NT/PC access to documents currently on Unix, thus also providing area to save Word/Access documents.
