ARISTARCHOS stuff (Vik Dhillon, 02/03/2001)

These pictures of Aristarchos were provided by Emilios Harlaftis at the end of 2000. The space envelope of the Aristarchos side port is tiny. We have 13cm from the mounting point to the telescope focal plane and then a further 85cm until we hit the forks. Sue Worswick sent the following email and picture of the Aristarchos space envelope.

Note that the upward looking port has a slightly better space envelope, with the focal plane 13cm from the mounting point and the floor of the telescope another 92.5cm below this (i.e. 7.5cm more space). Fortunately, according to this email from Tully, and this email, we will be ok.

Here is the original design of the Aristarchos collimator, and here is the tweaked design of 08/05/2001 (which has been fitted to all but two of the SPECAC stock tools, as described in this email), which was the version sent to SPECAC for a quotation.

SPECAC were unable to manufacture element 4 of the tweaked design, due to the fact that its edges are too thin (i.e. the lens becomes knife-edged). Therefore, on 16/05/2001, Tully released the final design, as described in this email. This was resent to SPECAC for a quotation.

Here is a WORD document from Mark Stevenson to Emilios Harlaftis detailing the dimensions of ULTRACAM (so that he can take it with him to his meeting with Zeiss on 11/6/01).

Here is a picture showing the dimensions of the cable wrap trunking, through which we will have to pass many of ULTRACAM's cables.

Here is an rtf document and two supporting emails from Martin Fisher assessing the possibility of routing the water chiller pipes for ULTRACAM through the Aristarchos cable wrap.

Here is a diagram from Martin Fisher showing the final A&G Unit (AGU) space envelope and a supporting email.

Here are some emails/documents regarding ULTRACAM's cable requirements. These had to be sorted out during the summer of 2001 because Zeiss were about to put the Aristarchos cable wrap together and they wanted to include all of ULTRACAM's cables.

Here is the Memorandum of Understanding between the Universities of Sheffield, Southampton and the NOA for the use of ULTRACAM on Aristarchos.
