From arns@KOSI.com Fri Nov 2 14:58:32 2007 Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2007 10:59:21 -0400 From: J. Arns To: Chris Pietraszewski Cc: Vik Dhillon Subject: Re: N-SF66 Prisms for Vik Dhillon's gratings Greetings Chris, I am pleased you will be able to meet Dr. Dhillon's rather tight deadline. The quotes I received from US vendors were all indicating longer deliveries than what was needed for this project to be successful. I have used two optical adhesives for bonding prisms to gratings such as this assembly. Both are from Epoxy Technology and are EpoTek 301 and 301-2. The -2 version is a longer cure version that introduces less stress into the bond. The company contact info is: Epoxy Technology 14 Fortune Drive Billerica, MA 01821 USA (978) 667-3805 x247 (978) 663-9782 fax I have only bonded SF66 once before so cannot offer much further advice. Our grating sub-assembly glass will be fused silica. If there is a significant difference in the thermal coefficient of expansion between SF66 and fused silica it may be preferred to use the 301-2 as it is slightly softer when cured than the 301. If it is possible and time allows I would love to see a photo of the final assembly. It is nice to see how it all turns out. But, if it compromises the schedule I will not be disappointed to only hear that it works when it gets installed. Good Luck, and I will give you an update as we get closer to shipping. We would normally use a Norland UV curing cement but this is not appropriate due to the opacity of N-SF66 at short wavelengths.   Please let me know which cement you would use to make these bonds.   Regards, Chris Pietraszewski, PhD IC Optical Systems Ltd 190-192 Ravenscroft Road Beckenham, Kent BR3 4TW United Kingdom Tel:  +44 (0) 20 8778 5094 Fax: +44 (0) 20 8676 9816 E-mail: chris.pietraszewski@icopticalsystems.com URL: IC Optical Systems Ltd Registered in England, number 4277655, at 190-192 Ravenscroft Road, Beckenham, Kent BR3 4TW   This e-mail (including any attachments) is intended only for the recipient(s) named above.
